About Erin Willard, Copy Editor

Thanks so much for visiting my website! I’m honored, and I would love to learn more about your project. If you have not yet assembled a diverse and representative publishing team, please also check out the Editors of Color website, where you can find their searchable Editors of Color Database and their Database of Diverse Databases to potentially expand the vision, voice, and inclusivity of your work.

As for me, I am a nerdy white woman whose business is correcting the pesky spelling, grammar, punctuation, word usage, sentence structure, consistency, and clarity slipups that can divert a reader’s attention from your wonderful writing. My goal is to make the reading experience as smooth as possible for your audience while protecting your unique voice.

My past projects have included copyediting manuscripts of award-winning novels, short stories, and memoirs, and I edit a variety of fiction genres, including mystery, historical, adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, and romance, as well as children’s, middle grade, and young adult stories and novels. Working with independent authors and small publishers is my specialty, giving a light polish to the voices of new writers, seasoned professionals, and those in between. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA); ACES, the Society for Editing; the Association of Independent Publishing Professionals (AIPP); and the San Diego Professional Editors Network (SD/PEN), where I served as secretary in 2017 and 2018 and co-president in 2019 and 2020.
